A Longevity Contest Between Two 75-Yr Olds, “Anti-Inflammatory Irving” and “Muscle-Mass Mickey”

This is a hypothetical health contest between two 75-year old male contenders (similar heights with different BMIs, lifestyles, and diets), who have made a bet to see who can live the longest. In one corner, we have a more sedentary and semi-vegetarian Irving, who has elected to eat less calories and pop more anti-inflammatory supplements to augment his belief that a largely fruit-vegetable/non meat-dairy diet will help him live to age 100. In the other, we have active, high-protein Mickey, who carries more weight and enjoys his steak and egg breakfasts. Who will live longer? Who has the better quality of life?

So many food choices…but is health in old age dictated more by activity levels, moderations, the right combinations (and mostly being nice, not smoking/drinking, genetics and…luck?)

The Health Profiles: Irving and Mickey have approached life from different angles, but ended up in largely the same place. They are both about the same height, 75 years old, married, with a few grown up kids and grandkids. Irving was the more academic, and Mickey the more athletic, but at this point you’d simply say that Irving is “skinny” while Mickey “has a bit of a gut”. Neither one smokes or drinks much alcohol (about 2–3 drinks per week). Here are more details:
