Almost incomprehensible to think that many 18-21 yr olds, so new to the world, should die for their Country. It would make more sense to send men over 55, as their lives have largely been lived! It makes me think also of the costly "beach landings after bombardment" that so often took place in the Pacific, taking so many lives (when bombing was ineffective). Not often mentioned that Iwo Jima was barely used as landing strip after costly taking...war planners need to better consider the value of human life!
