Another possible war-ending scenario: A few more years of an unpopular, Vietnam-like war of attrition for Russia, Putin dies (or is deposed) and a more cooperative regime takes his place, a face-saving truce takes place letting the people of Donbas and Crimea vote for national identity, no guarantees for Ukraine to "stand down" other than a cease-fire, Russia pays reparations.

As long as Ukraine is willing to fight and the West willing to support, why should those two concede anything? It would seem that Ukraine joining NATO is already on the table, I mean what really changes if that happens?
