Big advantages for rooftop:
1) Source close to user, avoids potential 50% line loss of AC Transmission over distance, storage can be pooled w neighbors. HVDC can lessen utility line loss, but not imminent.
2) Utilities want $50+ monthly tax and $.05/kWh (a pittance) from CA rooftop suppliers. The Utilities can be careless and cause fires & blackouts. Can they be trusted? Its a given that many won’t be able to have rooftop solar (renters, low income, etc) so utility grid scale still has a place. If grid users drop to about 50% and Utilities continue to do a bad job, State may be forced to take over grid. My thoughts:
