Great parallel, 1946 was beginning of long era of sustained growth in US (thanks largely to US role in Axis defeat) but short-term people struggled with the transition from material shortages and government dominion. Most notably, the HUGE national debt from the war was nearly paid off by the 60s (Robert Reich would say thanks to companies that gave medical/pensions and created Capitalism w generous safety nets, workers who prospered & happily paid their taxes).
Obviously, we again have material shortages and HUGE national debt, but we could achieve another era of prosperity (using 1946 lessons learned) if:
1) We use our tech to again create peace in the world (starting w helping Ukraine defeat Russia, protect Taiwan), creating broad Democratic/Human Rights alliances.
2) Effectively utilize the better among foreign workers, who are loyal & boost our tech economy, while improving domestic educational opportunity (post-WW2 era saw increase in both of these)
3) Effectively utilize other countries to help produce product (we already do this largely w Canada & Mexico). Our current production costs are less competitive than in '46.
4) Create decent wages, pensions & medical safety nets for happy workers who in turn pay taxes without complaint
5) Boost upward mobility (WW II saw a huge increase in opportunity thanks to military training and GI Bill. Today, they need some sort of compulsory national service that would culminate in viable skillsets).
Covid has created temporary shortages, 30 Trillion debt (and Gov. funny money) have created inflation, but as in '46, we can work our way out of this problem. Biden is a sort of Truman/Jimmy Carter, not popular now but perhaps more popular as time goes on....
