Hmm...wouldn't the presence of critical worldwide chip maker TSMC in Taiwan make China MORE likely to invade? As another responder pointed out, TSMC is building a plant in Arizona (covered recently by 60 Minutes), perhaps in anticipation of a PRC invasion. Chip making is an area where PRC is deficient (Most made in Taiwan, S. Korea, US). When I got my degree in Civil at UC Berkeley in the 70s, most of the EECS students were Taiwanese, many of whom repatrioted. Its no surprise that the West is quietly protecting this critical industry. Larger problem for PRC is "brain drain" as despite their efforts to control everyone, smart people gravitate to West. If East/West iron curtain falls, it's hard for them to prop up tech sector as they can't steal as much information. Latest example is apparent failure of their Covid vaccines (later their weaponry?) Fuel for another G. Piper article?
