I believe the Republican math works like this:

1) About 2/3 of Republicans are in the Mitch McConnell/Lindsey Graham/Bill Barr arena. They know Trump is dangerous, know Stop the Steal is a lie and threatens Rule of Law, yet for political expediency (and fear of Trump's supporters) they'll drink the cool-aid as long as they can then hop off the bandwagon at the last minute (I remember Nixon supporters doing the same during Watergate)

2) Cheney and Kinzinger, along w Vindeman, Hutchinson etc are threatened now by the Trump Mafioso, but stand to look like golden patriots when the dust settles. Cheney may lose her seat but is in a great position for '24.

3) Pence is interesting, of course he privately wants to "get" Trump, as Trump not only threatens his political career but his life. As soon as the Trump wave breaks, you know he'll sic his Evangelical followers on Trump (that was always a shaky alliance)

4) Yes, the nut balls will surely think of an excuse to storm Federal and State buildings as "Patriots" responding to government "overreach" (even though the Republican govs & judges are the overreachers lately). This time they will have automatic weapons etc and it will definitely merit a National Guard or even Military response. One hopes the military/police will be loyal to our Democracy.

5) Repubs will take back House & run some silly McCarthy-led retaliatory "investigations" on Cheney, Biden, Hillary that won't get anywhere as they will truly be Witch-Hunts.

6) Anyone who supports Russia and blames US for the war (about 10 in House, 2 in Senate, plus Trump & T Carlson) is already looking bad, may soon be branded full-on traitors, just like Nazi-sympathizers prior to our WW II entry. This will really favor Dems.

7) I recently counted at least 10 ancestors who participated in the American Revolution. I've researched a great deal about their backgrounds and causes. Like all territories that broke from the British Empire (ie India, Scotland) they were fighting a rational cause for independence responding to heavy-handed taxation, interventions, exploitations, and lack of autonomy. The British were led by the Tory party, and even the British Whigs didn't support their actions. The ancestors were largely Freemasons with a well-thought out cause with a dream of fairness, and were supported by most foreign countries who were sick of being bullied by the British.

In other words, the Jan 6th idiots (who think its patriotic to jail Hillary, exploit natural resources, steal elections, hate on immigrants that do most of the work) bear no resemblance to our Founding Fathers. Unless they get support from breakaway military forces (which Trump apparently was nurturing) it will be interesting to see a bunch of Qanons, Proud Boys, rogue County Sherrifs & angry middle aged white men like Alex Jones take on drones, helicopters, and high-caliber weaponry. Maybe that will bust the myth that AK-47s (small weaponry in war) will allow you to keep government honest (you're supposed to get involved in government if you don't like it, not blow it up).

Meantime, hopefully Progressive Liberals may get scared enough to drop Socialism & behave (and not play into Trump's hands), while we create a Moderate Party that can bring sense back to this Country.
