I bought my first EV in 1989, I was in the Electric Auto Association, and the club would stage electric car rallies at things like Earth Days. That club funded the prototype hybrid at Stanford in the early 90s. Of course much has changed...baby steps, right? I think a HUGE change is the electronic revolution, which now sees a great deal of work from home and online education (thereby reducing "trip ends", a transportation engineering term). If these and home delivery trends continue, much less reason to use a car, perhaps someday a bunch of robotic smart-car taxis?
