I can't help but wonder if it was bypassed because some early scribe misspelled it as "The Book of Eunuch", which was anathema to a male dominated sect.
Just when you want to believe a kind of DaVinci Code thing where "banned" biblical books are nobly subversive, you begin to realize that they are often weirder than the Bible.
I tend to believe that Jesus was sent to make "corrections" to the Old Testament (quite obviously actually) and that this was foretold in the OT. As such, the Bible is not quite "fixed" and a dynamic/interpretable/editable reference point.
