I guess the fact that "Herman's Hermits" didn't make either list speaks for itself, but in their own contrived and somewhat annoying way, seemed part of the Invasion (often of the earworm variety).
Frontman Peter Noone seemed to epitomize the "cute British boy" archetype, also made famous by Paul McCartney, Davey Jones, perhaps Freddie Garrity, and later Austin Powers (does he count as a post-invasion British invasion?)
Were my British New England-settler ancestors of 400 yrs ago similarly cute with big-ears, Beatle haircuts, and Cockney-accents? Probably not, too busy fighting Native Americans and all hidden under huge hats, King James Bibles, and large buckles.
Even so, I find "No Milk Today" still highly listenable. Maybe I'm a nostalgic fool, but I don't care.
PS-For female British Invasion, I submit Petula Clark, Lulu, Dusty Springfield, Marianne Faithfull.
