I often wished my parents had me do more sports and music, along with occasional 4H, Scouts, and Drama. As it was, I did a lot of farm chores, running sports (even in college), and piano. I also wish I'd had better early math and got a better start in college (I ended up taking 5-1/2 years to finish engineering degree with much travel and play in there, some of which I regret).
As a "2nd chance", I raised my two boys with plenty of sports, music, 4H, Scouts, and early math. I was an involved parent, but knew not to hover over them too much and allow some free will. The result? They are great kids, college degrees and good girlfriends, nice personalities, humble, but not quite as adventurous and imaginative as me (I suspect). Makes me guess that all my drifting served some purpose?
