I refer the reader once again to Netflix and "Servant of the People", the Ukrainian sitcom starring Zelensky made before he became the leader.
1) I don't think anyone denies that the Ukraine has issues (especially with corruption) but the main point is that like most of Eastern Europe, the Ukraine aspires to a kind of Zelenskian brand of Democracy with which to address these problems, while obviously doing what it takes to keep themselves alive.
2) Add this to the fact that there's an attempt to deny the Ukraine the right of self-determination (by a Fascist and much more corrupt regime which wants to infect half the world with its inferior brand while polluting & killing innocent victims/threatening to nuke any opponents) and you have a pretty good reason for the West to support the Ukrainian.
