I suppose this can be summarized as follows: "Having a BMI under 25 makes you less likely to get sick, but once you're sick, its better to have a BMI from 25 to 30". I more or less witnessed this first-hand, as I watched a heavier family member survive the cachexic phase of cancer much longer than a lighter one. I suspect that BMI will be replaced with a more accurate health marker in the future, since "adding muscle" often makes BMIs look worse.

A good topic for you might be "in old age, what is better, a) adding muscle b) caloric restriction or c) Somehow doing both (difficult). My thoughts:
