I too accept that "Next Generation" nuclear reactors may be necessary to bridge the gap between renewable "intermittency" and the advent of cheap/reliable energy storage (perhaps 30 years away). This, after a career mostly critical of nuclear power. As an engineer witnessing the transition of plants from the Chernobyl "chart recorder" days, to the modern SCADA electronics, I can say that this alone has made for more reliable operations (now we just have to worry about being hacked, haha). I don't support these new nuclear plants lightly, as they undoubtedly still have downsides and need to consider "acceptable risk". It is more the consideration of full electrification (natural gas bans, etc) and asking oneself "where the hell will all that electricity come from?" when one considers it will be 3x present use and needs to be delivered 24/7. I'm also happy to see the natural gas CCS and blue hydrogen conversion ideas come to bear, as they will likely power clean trucks/ships/planes (tanks?) and bridge more gaps. Gate's Terra Power seems a sound idea, maybe Melinda (and MacKenzie Scott?) will now pick up the funding? (more hahas)

Great job on the article!
