This makes me think of Jack Bruce and Felix Pappalardi, two classically trained musicians (we're talking Bach, fugues, and concert direction here) who were involved with Cream and later Mountain and West, Bruce, and Laing. They got really sick of the noise, and the touring. Both said that they'd generally settle down for a good night's rest and an interesting book, while all West and Laing wanted to do was get high, bang groupies, and make fart jokes (w a sort of Nigel Tufnel IQ). I guess one guy always needs to be the "brains" of the operation.
