I was just reading about how Turks took guns away from Armenians prior to 1915 Genocide. Yes it seems solution is not to take away guns but to make sure they are in competent hands (treat like cars, register/insure the weapon and license the user). Of course right wing nuts won't trust the government to participate in either (perhaps then private licensing/registration is in order?)
