If Germany wants to lead the world in clean energy, this would be a great time to finish the job. If not, better start importing compressed natural gas shipped from US and Canada, plus exploring some North Sea oil deposits. The more I learn about Germany (and visit), the more I kind of admire them. First, as kids we played army every day and absolutely hated the "Krauts" (this not long after the war), but when you consider that every country is sort of 50/50 (moronic racist & nationalist to educated liberal democrat, recent example being Trump etc) then you learn what a great job Germany did of rebounding from actions of their historically bad half. My father was in WW II German prison camp and he came away thinking that although bad Germans were very bad, Russians worse, "good" Germans helped him survive, etc. With British/German commonalities, makes you wonder why we couldn't have worked it out etc. Contrast to Japan who never was really held to account, much more savage to our prisoners/soldiers/captive nations, to this day unrepentant on many levels (ie Rape of Nanking perps admit atrocities, but Japanese government, not so much). Thus the "good" Germans have many admirable qualities? Lesson learned, perhaps any country capable of horrible racist atrocities if "bad" half gets out of control? "Good" half must always be on toes?
