I'm a senior, and read ten years ago that exercise produced a short-term inflammation response (to repair damaged muscle, etc), but that it was a net anti-inflammatory. I started working out regularly, while having my C-Reactive Protein checked annually, and additionally took anti-inflammatory meds such as Ashwagandha, Turmeric, Glucosamine/Chondroitin. My CRP has been low since, except for 2 instances, '18 when I was building an addition and my body was beat-up, '22 right after an illness. A year ago I quit anti-inflammatories and doubled my workout, since I now depend solely on muscle-mass gain and natural anti-inflammation. Exercise makes me feel great, but there are times I get injured or sick, and can't work out. I'm conflicted on whether to keep taking anti-inflammatories to close the gap*, or that at some point in my 70s I won't be able to work out as much, for fear of chronic injury. I suspect that at some point (ones 80s or 90s?) exercise (especially lifting weights) may risk doing more harm than good.

* Anti-inflammatories are said to work against muscle-mass gain
