In many ways, the enormous debt was Trump's doing (lowering taxes, overly generous Covid checks to citizens, badgering Powell to keep interest rates at zero which prefaced inflation, etc). In my lifetime, Repubs run up debt, Dems control debt, yet now its a runaway problem. Tea Partiers had chance to put lid on debt w 2013 Simpson Bowles but Ryan et al monkey-wrenched, Repubs only complain about debt when a Dem is in power.

MAGAs are like a bad cold, you have to suffer through it until it finally goes away. I suspect that Biden holds most of the cards, McCarthy won't want to have default on his resume, will swerve first in this game of fiscal chicken.
