It is rather well-known that most substances are "part-good, part-bad". For instance, sunlight is "good" to a point (Vit D, etc), but "bad" in excess (skin damage, cancer). Where the line exists is a mystery, perhaps 3 parts good, 1 part bad (and dependent on the "how"). Per the "Ames Test" (mutagenicity of various substances), even broccoli might be "5 parts good, 1 part bad". I'm guessing that alcohol may be "1 part good, 1 part bad" as it helps us cope, perhaps wine has some medicinal value, yet generally it is bad (or least bad in the way we currently use it). All food info taken together, it is a good argument for variety (which tends to offset the "bad") and "everything in moderation". Thanks for the article, yet this rather depressing news may drive me to drink!
