Its good that tech and investment are coming to the rescue, as wind, solar, and HVDC are becoming cheaper than the alternatives. There are many reasons why clean energy beats oil, even aside from climate change. As an engineer and clean energy advocate for the past 50 years, I can tell you that if I polled people in 1990 "would you pay another dollar for gas to convert to clean energy?", 90% would have said "no" (even many environmental advocates). But I also saw the power of 3rd graders in 1990 to implement recycling and dolphin-free tuna (perhaps they're the ones now w EVs and rooftop solar). It is far easier to "go green" now, but even back then it was possible (but pricey). Thus, I believe us consumers have to take our share of the responsibility in these problems/solutions, and not simply point fingers. There's also the specter of "what if we quit burning oil and the planet still warms" (ie non-anthropomorphic warming due to albido, methane-release from receding ice). We may need to look also "beyond renewables" into geoengineering and natural methane capture (plus taxes to finance) .
