Many of us were raised in the church and ended up "Christian in the general, perhaps not in the specific". Its those specifics that hang many of us up (the devil's in the details?), since Jesus seems to be a Libertarian "free will" kind of guy and not a nit-picker. I have always suspected that half of the world's "sin" is self-righteousness, a kind of misrepresentation of the Bible used to gain power over others (and frankly something that Jesus warned us about). TIME Magazine wrote an article many years ago, saying that American Christianity was a kind of patriotic materialism grafted upon a religion (it would seem they were right). Someday, perhaps we'll get back to addressing world peace, poverty, taking care of God's green earth, and not making petty and arrogant pronouncements?
