Most of the Presidents are rather W.A.S.P.y, as they mostly draw from the first-family English immigrants 400 years ago (the Catholics didn't even arrive in great numbers until the 19th Century). Speaking of Jefferson/Lincoln, I believe that speaks to the rather Masonic nature of our Presidency, most go to church but many are "divinity doubters" (or perhaps divinity agnostics) in the tradition of Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln (ie emphasizing Jesus the man more than Jesus the divine). In any case, it seems to have worked for our Country.
Younger Evangelicals are likely repudiating Trump, as he's exposed a kind of Christian Nationalist subculture that's bad for the churches future. I believe they may wish to return to Christian tolerance and service, and away from the name-calling.
