N.O.W. Vs Promise Keepers, and How Not to Lose a National Election
The Feminist National Organization of Women (N.O.W.) and Christian Promise Keepers have once again squared off over issues such as abortion, gay-rights, and the roles of men and women in marriage and society. Meanwhile, children are caught in the middle, prone to neglect (or not being born). Feminists appear to be doubling-down, at a time when that could lose the election (given that 45% of women voted for Trump in 2016). This may be a good time to create a broader political tent for women and family-values.
The year was 1932, the place Germany, a National Election was held. The Nazis had just won 37% of the seats in the Reichstag, the Communists 14%, and the rest of the vote split among four Centrist groups (22% Social Democrats (SDP), 12% Centre Party (DVP), 6% DNVP, 3% BVP, for a total of 43%). Paul von Hindenberg (basically a Joe Biden type), supported by the SDP and DVP, had won the popular vote for President. The German Communist Party could have aligned with the centrists to head off the Nazis, but instead let “perfect be the enemy of good”, and doubled down on their own minor success.
