Potential Trump Policy Boomerangs

It all sounded good during fear-mongering campaign speeches, but now the rubber hits the road on immigration, clean energy, Defense, Health, and Budget/Entitlements. Here’s what will boomerang, and how to catch the boomerang instead of having it hit us in the collective American groin.

The Trump-Musk bromance will create massive changes to workforce, industry, defense, health, entitlements. But if we’re not careful, these changes may also create inflation, compromise security, lower quality of life, and even cause economic collapse.

1. Immigration, the Problem: Many Americans believe that illegal immigrants are mostly out there picking lettuce or making hotel beds, but many have moved up to higher paying, semi-skilled positions such as construction labor. Most Americans are probably not aware of how much our economy depends upon these people. With respect to the tech skilled H1Bs, we certainly need qualified immigrants on visas to augment our lack thereof, but we surely don’t need Jihadist 9–11 bombers or union scabs. I would agree that we need less illegal immigrants, but the question might be “who is to replace them?”.

The Immigration Boomerang: Obviously, if half of the illegal immigrants are deported, there may be a “hole” in our economy, unless native-born Americans are trained to take their place. You will also hear about the deportation of “dreamers” (those who came here as infants, some of whom are now college-educated professionals and the like), who would seem to qualify as good citizens.
