Sorry, 1968 has it beat, unless you relish having Elton John scream "Bennie! Bennie!" into your ears about 100 times. Most of the bands you mentioned (Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, S&G, F.M.,) had even better albums in '68, plus so much more!
1) Jimi Hendrix-Electric Ladyland
2) Wheels of Fire-Cream
3) Beggar's Banquet-Rolling Stones
4) The Beatles (double white album) Beatles
5) Music from Big Pink-The Band
6) Anthem of the Sun-Grateful Dead
7) Cheap Thrills-Big Brother and the Holding Co
8) Saucerful of Secrets-Pink Floyd
9) Fleetwood Mac-Fleetwood Mac
10) Waiting for the Sun-The Doors
11) Bookends-Simon and Garfunkel
12) Child is the Father to the Man-BS&T
13) The Notorious Byrd Brothers-The Byrds
14) Abraxas-Santana (ok, 1969)
15) The Who-Tommy (ok, also 1969)
Also killer/classic albums by Aretha Franklin, Beach Boys, Dr John, Velvet Underground, Jeff Beck, The Kinks, Jefferson Airplane, Deep Purple, Johnny Cash (unfortunately, Bob Dylan took the year off)
Trust me, I was 18 in '73 and I wanted to like our year better ('68 was my "brother's favs", darnit), but time won me over. 1968 was the year that TAUGHT 1973 what good rock 'n roll was...just ask my boys in their 20s (one a part time DJ) which was better...late 60s hands down!
