Sorry for going on about this, but a subject dear to my heart. When we milked the family cow, I told my boys they were "8th generation dairy" and its, true...we've been to visit the family dairy in NY State (still run by cousins, also where g-g-g-g-gf from Rev is buried) founded in 1790s. Honestly, another hypothetical would be "who's kicking butt in the NBA?-Probably a lot of N. Americans, Africans, N. Europeans who ate a lot of meat and dairy as kids!" My gut instincts are not generally with the vegans though I try to be fair.
All that said, my vet father was rather appalled around 1960 when he saw the creation of "Franken-cow" the high/production w faulty feed that was killing cows due to acetonemia etc. He truly loved cows (our "foster mothers", he'd say) and thought we should treat them better. I also believe our early American ancestors ate a balanced diet, meat & dairy yes but with many fruits/veggies, "Paleo" if you will.
