Thanks for another well-reasoned piece. My grandfather was a WW I and II Army Colonel, (but in Quartermaster Corps) and used to joke to his wide-eyed grandchildren "I was where the bullets were the thickest...under the ammunition wagon!". Only now am I understanding the magnitudes of "an Army travels on its stomach", the Red Ball Express, C-130 transports, etc. (and I suppose Patton knew importance of support as much as anyone).
All that said, the US continues to lead in innovation and getting there first with the most, but our poor cost-effectiveness is running up dangerous deficits. US-Ukraine a great logistical tag-team, but in conflict w China, might they simply be able to out-produce us (unless we cultivate a cheaper defense production partner, like Mexico?)
