There is a theory about the "Biological Reasons for War" which states that when there are too many males, they pretty much think of an excuse to start killing each other. I'm thinking that a weird kind of solution to all this Nationalistic bravado worldwide is a kind of limited WW III with Russia & China (which would unite our country, boost the economy, defeat repressive regimes, all at a cost but at least we wouldn't be killing each other). I guess it would look like Ukraine-Russia, many missiles lobbed but hopefully no nukes. WW II did an incredible job of all that (and I guess we were lucky too, subsequent Vietnam & Iraq were downers!). Trigger happy, Lost Cause Southern boys need something to project anger on! For the record also, I think a modern Civil War would largely play out like the last one:
