There is the Santa Claus praying, but two really immediate (and important) examples:

1) They say "There are no atheists in foxholes", which speaks to the power of prayer in the terror of battle.

2) When we raised and slaughtered our steer for freezer beef, DID WE EVER PRAY BEFORE DINNER. We began to understand the value of food and have a device to give thanks/ask forgiveness.

I suppose a way to summon the positive forces of fate, yet acknowledge an appropriate humility.
