They say only 1 in 10 of wronged patients litigate. Meanwhile, advocacies like the AMA want liability limiters to "control medical costs". Short of bringing your own video camera to your surgery, I suppose verifying that your surgeon has a good track record is the best defense. Even this is tricky though, as the industry is good at hiding its mistakes. One hint: like bad teachers, bad surgeons move around a lot.
