This just in...Mel Gibson is to do a remake of "The Alamo" in which Davy Crockett & Col Travis paint their faces and taunt Santa Ana's Mexican forces by lifting up their kilts (& lowering buckskins?). Crockett secretly romances Santa Ana's son's fiance, (while cleverly sneaking behind enemy lines), yelling "Freedom!" in the movie's climatic scene.

The funniest/best part of "The Longest Day" was Robert Mitchum standing erect on Omaha Beach as though to say "I dare you to shoot me, I'm Robert Mitchum". Second to that was John Wayne getting shot in the leg, and more or less saying "it's only a scratch". I guess this B&W epic hid all the ketchup-spewing glory of a "Saving Private Ryan", and Wayne/Mitchum didn't have time for the sissy/PTSD antics of Hanks et al.
