Three Historic Hijackings of Christianity…

…AND ONE “ADJUSTMENT”. Ok Christian historians…let’s begin with the fact that Christianity has been pretty successful by and large. But isn’t it interesting how the original message has been changed over the years (possibly to better scare people into compliance)?

A nagging, open question has always been “If Jesus is God, then why is he praying to himself?” This also kind of makes “The Trinity” into “The Duality”. While we’re at it, how did the “Holy Spirit” partially become a kind of pagan Voodoo thing?

Highjack #1, The Concept of Faith: Let’s begin with the concept of Faith. Kind of bedrock central to Christianity, right? But let’s look at the history of Faith, and how it’s changed over the years. Honestly, the word “Faith” seems to be like the words “Jazz” or “Poetry”, in that there is a wide latitude within which it can be defined.

1) Old Testament Faith: This meant believing in the omnipotence of God, (no questions asked), and subsequent compliance. Remember, there was not really a “Heaven or Hell” yet (we’ll get to that later).

2) New Testament Faith: As of the invention of Jesus’ New Covenant, the meaning of Faith changed a bit. It now meant accepting wholeheartedly that Jesus died for our sins, and that believing in all things Jesus represented (Faith) was your gateway to salvation.

3) Protestant Faith: Mostly due to the efforts of Martin Luther, the Protestants hijacked Faith into this anti-Catholic thing that rejected “good works”, and possibly even “reason”. Remember that for all their misdeeds, the Medieval Catholic…
