Trump et al has union workers now spouting the anti-EV refrain (including the lack of recycling, supposed env impacts you mention). While at present, EVs are not perfect, I suppose us EV defenders need to point out 1) Solid state batteries are almost here, higher energy densities and faster charging times 2) EVs will look a lot better when the renewable industry grows to the point where EVs are always charged using clean energy 3) Even using electricity from gas/coal sources, EVs are much cleaner and more efficient 4) Until renewables, better batteries, and utility-grade renewable storage, recycling come fully onboard, one should at least be driving a plug-in hybrid with about a 120 mpg equiv 5) If the US quits making EVs, expect foreign competition to strangle our future auto making abilities. People forget that it took internal combustion engines awhile to evolve 100 yrs ago (when full economy of scales hit, EVs should be MUCH better and cheaper). Meanwhile, I believe EVs will at least take over the small car market regardless, as they are becoming economical w better range (while hydrogen may enter truck market). All the above are probably WAY too nuanced for a Trump-voter, but oh well.
