With such a history of "effective undersized rebounders" (Barkley, D Green, Unseld, Cowens, L Johnson, Millsap, B Wallace, generally fierce, beefy guys that are good at blocking out), the NBA began to realize that "being 7' doesn't always matter". The prototype center now needs to also pass, screen, play D (also positioning more than height), and hit an occasional 3 to create space and pull out the opposing center. (or at least have a mid-range game, often a hook shot). Jokic is the prototypical center now, with the bulk, shot, and passing abilities. Looking at Warriors bust James Wiseman (versus lunch pail center Kevon Looney), it was apparent Wiseman didn't have the bulk/positioning IQ of the shorter Looney. Looney sets killer screens for Curry, can hold back 2 opponents for rebounds, holds position on D, making foul-prone Wiseman look like a stick-man. Also, with so many 3s, many rebounds come out long, favoring rebounding guards. I remember seeing Chamberlain in '62, like a man playing with boys...a totally different game now. It helps also that no one wants to tangle with the beefy 6'7 guy, a de facto enforcer that the Currys of the world appreciate.
