Yes and apparently Trump et al is about to do a full political assault on EVs (as a rather cynical vote for US Auto workers). Hopefully the US sees the practical sides/growing pains and doesn't lose EV/hybrid business to foreign compeition. It seems to me (having tracked EVs for over 30 years now), EVs fit nicely into the small car market, less so with these huge vehicles (heavy to begin with, behemoths when so many batteries added). With pickups, most want at least 8,000 lb towing capacity, which can translate to many batteries and $$$ (and I'm not sure why they've resisted PHEVs.) Many are happy with a small pickup though, and just want to drop off the kids/camp on weekends (thus the PHEV niche). Some predict hydrogen for larger trucks (that's the Toyota vision, apparently). Those in the EEA (Electric Auto Assoc) used to believe that an electric car was about like a 90 mpg gas car, all considered (they realized EVs had some env impact too). I believe PHEV pickups could reach maybe 100 equiv MPG (w maybe 4000 lb towing), a good stand-in until EVs are powered by renewables? My article:
