Yes to most everything you say. Many don't understand the weight and energy density problem of batteries, at best they may work in a kind of "hybrid" system in light aircraft (unless something changes). Honestly, hydrogen may be poised to power many heavier conveyances, yet challenges remain, 1) As you say, "green" hydrogen a good fit for wind/solar "storage", yet much of current hydrogen is "grey" (from natural gas, etc) but could be "blue" (from natural gas with carbon scrubbed) 2) Obviously, the hydrogen industry needs to "grow" more economy of scale and have more delivery stations 3) Air travel may be 2.5% of current emissions, but may be poised to grow, as its becoming the dominant mode of intercity travel 4) It is speculated that natural gas lines could be converted to "green gas" (perhaps a blend of hydrogen and biogas), not sure of how to solve the leakage problem.
