You always hear about worms living longer w caloric restriction, so this news is "man bites dog". However, I always wondered why primitive people, essentially on low-cal diets w high exercise (ie in Jared Diamond's "World Before Yesteday" re: New Guinea) didn't live that long either. It seems there might be a "Bell Curve" kind of relationship, where "Blue Zone" or "French Paradox" diets are optimal (high fiber, high exercise, AND some sweets?). The natural conclusions are:

1) Live a Blue Zone lifestyle or

2) Become a worm living in a vat of molasses.
